Microsoft ha anunciado oficialmente que en canadá y en estados unidos va a lanzar su consola xbox 360 con 60 gb de disco duro. Será lanzada en agosto y a un precio de 349 dólares, exactamente lo que cuesta en la actualidad el modelo de 20 gb, que pasará a costar 299 dólares, sin duda es una rebaja que hará decidirse a mucha gente a comprarse la amada consola de bill gates.
Sin duda es un golpe de efecto a favor de la “blanquita”, un golpe que sería mayor si pudieramos incluir a europa y japón en el lote, pero no es así, tendremos que esperar a que tengamos la suerte de poder obtener una xbox 360 de 20 gb mas barata o un modelo de 60 gb.

It’s times like these that I wonder about the sanity of Sony’s Marketting Department, I mean we’ve had years upon years of terrible ads for the Playstation brand and just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, it does. I think in some of these cases we were able to brush these faults off as “corporate” not getting modern trends or just trying too hard, but this? This is just too good to not bring up.
It sure seems that Sony took inspiration from a… competitor, doesn’t it? I can’t quite place it but every time I look at this image I have a strange case of déjà vu.

For Sony, winning the next-generation DVD war against Toshiba has been a mixed bag - while defeating HD-DVD was clearly a good thing, the delay in getting Blu-ray to market has meant that there are a lot of devices out there currently that are using legacy DVD for portable media support. Would Blu-ray be further ahead if Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii supported the player? Definitely.
Two quick news items in this area.
First of all, Pioneer has demoed a 400GB Blu-ray monster that use a 16-layer Blu-ray disc and  could see Blu-ray discs move to sizes above 50GB. These disc sizes could be useful in working with more HD content and particularly for the creative community, though likely very much overkill in the near-term at the consumer level.
Turning back to Blu-ray adoption, the glass at present appears to be half-full, with just research firm NPD indicating that just 10% of HDTV […]

Nachdem die Blu-Ray Disc das Rennen gemacht hat, sind die Filme auf HD-DVD stark im Preis gefallen. Waren die Filme zuvor noch für 20,- bis 25,- € zu haben, kostet mittlerweile fast keine der HD-DVDs mehr als  8,- € (Quelle: Amazon.de) Und wenn es dann den dazugehörigen Player für fast lau gibt, schlägt man natürlich zu. Das HD-DVD Laufwerk für die XBox-360 gab es zwischenzeitlich für weniger als 30,- €.

Nach mehrerern Jahren der Entwicklung und des dahinsichens, wurde im März endlich eine Entscheidung um das Nachfolgeformat der DVD getroffen. Der Sieger heißt: Blu Ray Disc
Den Ausschlag gab letztendlich Toshiba, die neben Microsoft einer der Hauptunterstützer des HD-DVD Formates waren. Nun gaben sie aber bekannt in Zukunft keine weiteren HD-DVD Player mehr zu produzieren. Schon zuvor hatte sich mit der Aussage der Warner Sudios, sich in Zukunft auf Blu Ray zu konzentrieren, den Stuhl der HD-DVD ins wackeln gebracht. Auch Preisaktionen mit hundert Dollar für einen Player und 7 HD-DVDs oben drauf haben nichts mehr gebracht.
Somit ist endlich der Weg frei, sich einen HDTV Fernseher und Player zuzulegen, ohne eines Tages aufzuwachen und auf das falsche Pferd gesetzt zu haben. Ich hatte das schon im Dezember letzten Jahres gemacht, hatte aber Glück. Die PlayStation 3 mit Blu-Ray Player stellte sich als das Richtige heraus.
