Il film ha venduto tanto, troppo, oltre le aspettative almeno per quanto riguarda la versione in Blu-ray, al punto da far collassare i server approntati da Paramount Pictures per gestire le funzionalità BD-Live della release.
BD-Live rappresenta l’ultima specifica attualmente codificata del formato hi-def di Sony, e permette di sfruttare la connessione di rete per il download di contenuti aggiuntivi non presenti originariamente sul disco in commercio. Nel caso di Iron Man le richieste di download hanno superato le capacità infrastrutturali del servizio, impedendo il suo corretto sfruttamento e, quel che è peggio, provocando un ritardo tale da far credere agli acquirenti che il supporto fosse difettato.

Quais as diferenças entre HD-DVD e Blu-Ray Disc?
São duas tecnologias distintas que disputam a sucessão dos DVDs e diferem tecnicamente e em capacidade de armazenamento.
Um disco de 1 camada do padrão Blu-Ray consegue armazenar cerca de 25GB de informação (6 horas) e o disco HD-DVD permite armazenar 15GB (4 horas).
Uma vantagem do disco HD-DVD é o custo de produção menor em relação ao disco Blu- Ray.

Alors que la bataille l’opposant au Blu-Ray a tourné en sa défaveur il y a déjà quelques mois, le HD-DVD fait de la résistance. Les films tournent autour de 10€, pour 30€ la galette Blu-Ray, et les platines de Toshiba sont estimées à 60€, un prix dérisoire face au lecteur Sony (200 à 300€ minimum).
Le seul problème, c’est le catalogue très léger proposé par Toshiba, et qui n’est pas véritablement renouvelé.
Alors bien sûr, ça ne va pas relancer la gué-guerre entre le Blu-ray et le HD-DVD, mais n’empêche, il fallait en parler !

Het is nu 6 maanden na het einde van de HD-DVD, maar het wil nog steeds niet vlotten met Sony’s Blu-ray. Fabrikanten trekken alles uit de kast (dure promotiecampagnes, gratis trial discs, goedkopere spelers), toch blijven de verkoopcijfers tegenvallen.

Volgens de laatste verkoopcijfers van Nielsen, neemt het marktaandeel van Blu-ray discs in de Verenigde Staten zelfs af. In de tweede week van september spendeerde de Amerikanen $ 9.19 mln aan Blu-ray discs. Een daling van 13,39% ten opzichte van de week ervoor en nog geen schijntje van de $ 111.29 mln die aan normale DVD’s werd besteed.
En dat terwijl men begin dit jaar dacht dat het Blu-ray aan het einde van 2008 en marktaandeel van 50% zou bereiken…
